What We Do
Organization Overview (brief history, accomplishments and values)
Founded in 2023, WNY G7, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers free or low-cost girls ages 7-17 the opportunity to learn the skills, rules and playing strategies of flag football and the “G7 learning characteristics” of teamwork, communication, dedication, self-discipline, leadership and resilience. WNY G7 values its specific niche of flag football skill development as well as its 7 character/social emotional learning skill development. WNY G7 is sanctioned and insured through USA Flag. WNY G7 is founded and led by a former professional women’s football player, Sandra Nesbitt, who played in the American Football Alliance, Women’s Professional Football, Independent Women’s Football, and United States Women’s Football leagues on the Rochester Roar, Erie Illusion, Cleveland Fusion, New England Intensity, and Boston Renegades and is certified by USA Flag as an advanced- level coach. Nesbitt coaches and played for the 716 Blizzards women’s professional football team. Nesbitt received the 2024 award for community service through WNY G7 and all of its outreach programs. Nesbitt was a former health, physical education and aquatics teacher in the Buffalo Public Schools, Buffalo, NY for nearly 15 years until she decided to pursue the WNY G7 non-profit organization full-time. She brings a thorough background in social emotional learning, nutrition, and physical activity that transfers into her teaching of girls’ flag football and the G7 character skills outlined above. Prior to receiving non-profit status, the program was in existence for the past six years since 2019.
Over the past six years participant enrollment increased from 10 athletes to 35 athletes. Two athletes currently receive a stipend to play for no-cost due to financial strains faced by their families. Athletes typically pay $175 to play, which is prohibitive to fostering increased participation in this low-income community. WNY G7 offers fundraising opportunities to cover athlete expenses. WNY G7 athletes are featured in the November 2025 Legendary Magazine. The article showcased flag football athlete skills, team membership feedback, and G7 characteristic acquisition. WNY G7 offers flag football demonstrations to schools and community partners such as Ralph C. Wilson Foundation, United Way and Juneteenth events in Buffalo, NY. WNY G7 partners with the 716 Blizzards to have a big-sister, little-sister program between girls and women football players.
WNY G7 athletes learn the skills which translate now to WNY G7 athletes going on to play on the newly added in 2024 WNY Section 6 high school girls flag football teams sponsored by many school districts. WNY G7 athletes may also now qualify for athletic scholarships to colleges and universities. In 2028, the USA Olympics will feature girls flag football as an inaugural Olympic sport.
Vision Statement:
The WNY G7 vision is to provide girls ages 7-17 the opportunity to learn to play and to ultimately master flag football skills in a safe, supportive and caring environment. Our athletes develop character and leadership through our programming.
Mission Statement:
The mission of WNY G7 is to teach girls ages 7-17 about how to play flag football while guiding their development of character through teamwork, communication, dedication, self-discipline, leadership and resilience (or Girls (G7)). WNY G7 strives to create the next generation of future leaders. To meet our goal, we aim to develop the connection between the mind, body and spirit of the whole person as an athlete. By nurturing the mind, body and spirit connection we empower young ladies to have a lasting impact across Western New York.
